The CheMatSustain Facility is Live!

We are excited to announce the upcoming official launch of the CheMatSustain Facility! Beginning June 27th, this online platform will be available to support collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovation in the field of safe and sustainable nanomaterials.

As a member of the public, the CheMatSustain Facility will serve as your go-to place for information, updates, and ways to get involved with CheMatSustain. This topic is not just for scientists; it affects everyone. And that is why we want to involve you!

What is CheMatSustain All About?

CheMatSustain is a European research project with the goal of making small chemical materials more environmentally friendly. These chemical materials, called nanomaterials, are important across various industries, including healthcare, energy, manufacturing, and consumer products. You are likely already familiar with them, as they exist in everyday products like paints, waterproof gear, and cosmetics. While these products are useful, we do not yet know exactly how their presence affects the environment. CheMatSustain is aiming to understand how nanomaterials may affect health and the environment, create guidelines, promote collaboration between research and industry, and engage the public.

What is the CheMatSustain Facility?

The CheMatSustain Facility is an open, digital hub that brings together people from research, industry, policy, and citizens to share knowledge and promote the responsible development of nanomaterials. This platform serves as a knowledge-sharingS center and a decision support tool. Policymakers can find guidance on safety and sustainability standards, industry members will benefit from safe and sustainable production resources, and citizens will be provided with reliable information to understand chemical exposure and its implication in daily life.

Built Together, For Everyone

The CheMatSustain Facility was created through a collaborative process with industry professionals, researchers, policy makers, citizen groups, and NGOs. It was important that all groups were involved as the facility is meant to be a space that addresses the needs of all stakeholders and promotes transparency.

How Does CheMatSustain Plan to Involve the Public?

As nanomaterials become more common in consumer products, public awareness is essential. By closing the information gap and promoting transparency, CheMatSustain aims to empower citizens to make informed choices, build trust in nanotechnology, and support the sustainable development of these materials. In addition to the CheMatSustain Facility, we have planned some exciting events and communications for schools, university students, NGOs, and everyday consumers, including:

  • Workshops for Schools
    • Age-appropriate activities to build understanding of nanomaterials, their benefits, and responsible production/consumption
  • Digital Outreach
    • Citizens will be able to follow along with updates from all our project partners, including the latest findings from our researchers
  • Career Connections
    • People interested in careers in materials science will learn from industry professionals and discover the latest developments in the field
  • And Much More!

Our goal is to provide you with the information you need to make informed purchasing decisions, clear up misconceptions around nanomaterials, and provide a space for you to stay engaged with this important sustainability topic.

Explore and Get Involved

On June 27th, check out the newly launched CheMatSustain Facility. There you will find further information about our project and information about getting involved. Citizens will also have the chance to help develop future engagement material with the CheMatSustain team. We believe that building a sustainable world is a team effort, and we would love for you to be a part of it.

Follow our journey to stay connected and hear about new events, stories, and chances to participate.
