Strengthening Research and Educational Ties:                    UNIURB and TUL Collaborate on CNM Toxicity Testing

A dynamic collaboration between the University of Urbino Carlo Bo (UNIURB, Italy) and Lodz University of Technology (TUL, Poland) continues to grow under the framework of the CheMatSustain project, specifically within Work Package 3 (WP3), which focuses on pilot testing metabolic responses to selected chemicals and nanomaterials (CNMs).

As part of these joint efforts, Dr. Małgorzata Siatkowska and Dr. Piotr Komorowski, both senior scientists from TUL, visited the Department of Biomolecular Sciences (DISB) at UNIURB. Their visit enabled advanced testing using microfluidic systems that simulate near in vivo conditions, aiming to deepen understanding of CNM toxicity mechanisms and their long-term effects on biological systems.

This research-driven partnership has also opened doors on the academic front. Thanks to the strengthened ties, an Erasmus+ inter-institutional agreement was signed between UNIURB’s School of Biological and Biotechnological Sciences and TUL’s Faculty of Chemistry – Institute of Applied Radiation Chemistry.

The Erasmus+ collaboration facilitated the visit of Prof. Bożena Rokita, Associate Professor at TUL, who joined her colleagues in Urbino to deliver a series of seminars focused on advanced materials and emerging technologies, as part of a teaching mobility program.

This valuable exchange of expertise and perspectives is expected to significantly enrich both research and educational activities, paving the way for future innovations in the field of materials science and toxicology.
