Last week, the CheMatSustain project team came together in Bologna, Italy, for two major events back-to-back, the third General Assembly as well as the first Review Meeting of the project. The meetings were hosted by the University of Bologna in the historic Palazzo Poggi, part of the prestigious campus.
On 25th June, the 3rd General Assembly Meeting of the project was held, during which partners discussed the progress made over the last 18 months of the project and presented an overview of each of the work packages. Furthermore, the consortium laid out a roadmap for the next few months. Advisory Board members Alessandro Kovtun and Laura Toschi also attended the meeting, where they received a comprehensive update on the project’s progress and offered valuable feedback to the consortium on key points to consider when planning the next steps.
The partners reflected on the significant achievements in the selection, preparation, and physicochemical characterization of chemicals and nanomaterials, as well as in understanding the metabolic responses following exposure. An insightful discussion took place around the potential applications of the selected nanomaterials and the companies chosen for collaboration in the next phase of the project.
After a day of presentations and exchange of ideas, the consortium had the chance to discover the rich history and culture of the city during a guided walking tour. The meeting day concluded with a shared social dinner in the old city of Bologna, giving partners the chance to further catch up in a more relaxed atmosphere.
The following day, on the 26th June, the CheMatSustain project team welcomed the project reviewer, Susana Filipe, and the project consortium for the first review meeting of the project. Dr. Jelena Barbir (HAW), the lead project manager, opened the session, followed by a welcoming note by project officer George Kotsikos.
During the meeting, work package leaders presented the work performed so far over the first 18 months of the project. Each presentation was followed by some first review questions from the experts. The meeting concluded with a presentation of the next steps identified for the following months. Valuable feedback was received from the reviewer to support shaping the future project work. This second day of meetings was also rounded off with a social dinner, celebrating the successful conclusion of the first review meeting.
