CheMatSustain was at the EU’s “Safe and sustainable by design: Accelerating the industrial transition” conference in Brussels. On March 20th, the European SSbD community, including industry leaders, policymakers, and researchers, convened to strengthen regional ties. The event allowed various EU projects dedicated to integrating the SSbD concept to investigate possibilities for new collaboration opportunities, data sharing and research development.
The CheMatSustain project was represented by project partners Dr. Emma Strömberg and Dr. Tomas Rydberg from the IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute. The meeting comprised two sessions: Safer and More Sustainable Chemicals and Operationalization of the SSbD Framework. During the latter, the partners presented methodologies for the SSbD assessment of chemicals and materials, sharing current insights from CheMatSustain with the audience.
Other insightful presentations included computational models for the development of SSbD chemicals and materials, characterization methodologies for the risk assessment of nanomaterials, and many more.
The event provided a platform for engaging discussions and new ideas that will continue through dialogues and upcoming events. It served as a good opportunity to exchange experiences and learn about the revised Commission Recommendation on SSbD chemicals. The European Commission is looking forward to higher engagement in collaboration with the projects.
